About Us<\/h2>\n

MatMat was created in Latvia by a family company ACR4edu<\/b>, in close collaboration with researchers, educators, and child development specialists, as well as in cooperation with the RTU Vidzemes Innovation and Lifelong Learning Centre.<\/p>\n

Our goal was to develop a learning tool that is not just a game or an app, but a dynamic and inspiring educational platform<\/b> where children can learn mathematics with joy.<\/p>\n

This idea is based on a modern adaptive learning approach<\/b> that adjusts to each child\u2019s pace, abilities, and interests. Mistakes are not seen as failures \u2013 they are a natural and necessary part of the learning process. How was MatMat <\/b><\/strong>created?<\/h2>\n

We wanted children to be joyful, move physically, not be afraid of making mistakes, and practice mental math, which is the foundation of mathematics.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why the \u201csmart cells\u201d are designed as modular units that can be customized, rearranged, and used in various games and activities.<\/p>\n

MatMat consists of:<\/b><\/p>\n

  • 13 connectable smart cells that form a modular sensor number mat;<\/li>\n
  • A mental math app that adapts tasks and tracks movements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Deeply inspired us by the work of Dr. John J. Ratey, a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School, particularly his book *Spark*, in which he writes: \u201cDid you know that you can reduce stress, improve your mood, fight memory loss, boost focus and mental performance \u2014 simply by getting your heart rate up and breaking a sweat?\u201d<\/h4>\n

    Our Path to Innovation<\/h2>\n

    MatMat\u2019s journey began with a research idea that emerged at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, as part of the postdoctoral research project \u201cArtificial Intelligence Support for Accelerated Mathematics Learning Approaches.\u201d This initiative laid the foundation for an innovative learning approach, combining mathematics education with movement, digital technologies, and the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

    The first steps in development were supported by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) pre-incubation program, where the initial idea was developed, and the potential user base was identified.<\/p>\n

    Further growth and product development were significantly supported through participation in the LIAA Valmieras Business Incubator, where assistance was received for refining the product, testing the solution, and preparing it for a broader market.<\/p>\n
